Migrant arrivals to Europe plunged in 2016 as route via Greece blocked

There was a sharp decline in the number of migrants crossing the Aegean and using the Balkan route to reach western Europe. But journeys from North Africa to Italy increased, resulting in nearly 5,000 people drowning....
